Hermès | Sheep to Wool

Claudy Jongstra created the 'Sheep to Wool' series for the window vitrines of Hermès in Palermo, Sicily in honor of Manifesta 12, the European Nomadic Biennial for contemporary art, which focused on the themes of migration and climate change. With 90x90 cm square compositions in luxurious silk with refined hand embroidery, Jongstra references the iconic Hermès scarf and attention to expert craft, while the textures of her woolen pelts celebrate the organic beauty of wool and the importance of connecting with natural material sources.

Presented along with partnering organization Past Forward / Villa Valguarnera, this series expresses the connection between preserving artisanal handcraft techniques, revitalizing the value of natural materials, and protecting biodiverse landscapes.
